Elly Maniccia is a 2025 Summer Associate at Hinman, Howard & Kattell. She attends Syracuse University – School of Law and has been a great part of the team!

Elly, Thank you for participating in this Meet the Lawyer – Summer Associate Edition. Can I ask you, what excites you about your summer at HH&K?
I am super excited to learn all the different areas of the law and to work with multiple attorneys at the law.
What was your college mascot?
Iggy the dolphin
What book are you currently reading? Or podcast you are listening to?
I have two go to podcasts right not: “Aware and aggravated” and “Busy yet pretty.”
What is your favorite musical group / singer?
Childish Gambino
What is the best concert you have ever seen live?
Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden
If you could live somewhere for a year, where would you go and why?
Malta, I would love to explore the island and learn about it’s history and be able to travel to the neighboring countries and islands.
What teacher or coach made the biggest impact on you and why?
My college golf coach, Joe Tesori, has had the biggest impact on me in recent years. His constant positivity and genuine care for others made a lasting impression. He always treated people with kindness and respect, and I strive to reflect those same qualities.
If you could witness any event of the past, present or future, what would it be?
Tiger’s 1997 Masters win
What is a new skill that you would like to learn or are currently trying to learn?
I have been trying to learn how to snowboard for about 3 years – it’s still a work in progress.
What’s something you’ve done that took you completely out of your comfort zone? Do you regret it?
Joining appellate teams while in law school and arguing in front of judges and crowds. I don’t regret it for a second and now seek out opportunities to partake in those competitions.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I can’t choose it would either be ice cream or green beans and mashed potatoes
What’s your go-to productivity tip — or guilty distraction?
My guilty distraction is bothering everyone around me when I start to get bored…
If you were not planning to be an attorney, what would your job be?
A research scientist for the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy
What is your dream car?
Something other than a used beater
What is your favorite quote and why?
“It is what it is.”
I like to make the most of things, no matter the circumstances. Whether something is good or bad, life will keep on moving so you need to be able to keep moving with it.
Do you have any pets? What kind of review would your pet leave you if they were asked to rate you as a human?
I have three dogs, two American water spaniels and a golden retriever, and a turtle and a tortoise. I think my pets would say I am pretty cool.
What made you decide you want to be an attorney?
I didn’t want to take the math classes to go to med school
If you could write a law to make the world better, what would it be?
Ice cream is always free
If you had to turn your career path into a board game, what’s one rule or challenge on it?
Challenge: fit a lip stain, lip liner, lip gloss, lip oil, and sunglasses into one tiny purse to move on to the next level. (Too many things going on at once—and somehow, you have to make it all fit.)
