PRESS RELEASE
September 11, 2026

Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP is proud to announce that Managing Partner James W. Orband has been named to City & State New York’s 2026 Upstate Power 100 list.

The annual list recognizes influential leaders whose work is helping shape the economic, civic and political future of communities across Upstate New York. Orband was ranked No. 87 and recognized as a prominent leader in the Greater Binghamton community, as well as for his role in guiding one of the region’s leading law firms.

As Managing Partner, Orband provides strategic leadership to Hinman, Howard & Kattell while maintaining an active legal practice focused on financial institutions, construction law, mergers and acquisitions, and other complex business matters. He represents public and private companies across a range of industries, including financial services, construction, manufacturing and insurance.

Since becoming Managing Partner in 1999, Orband has guided HH&K’s continued growth beyond its Binghamton roots. Today, the Firm includes 14 offices and serves clients throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida and beyond. Throughout that expansion, HH&K has remained committed to the client service, professional excellence and community involvement that have defined the Firm for more than 125 years.

A native of New York’s Southern Tier, Orband has long been actively involved in organizations supporting education, economic development, health care and the broader community. He serves as a member of the Binghamton University Council and a trustee of SUNY Broome Community College. He also serves or has served on the boards of numerous civic, educational and charitable organizations throughout the region.

Orband previously chaired the New York State Bar Association’s Business Law Section and Banking Law Committee and is a frequent lecturer on law firm management. His professional and community service has earned him several honors, including the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce Civic Leader of the Year Award and the Broome County Bar Association Community Service Award.

City & State described Orband as “a pillar of Binghamton” and highlighted both his leadership of HH&K and his longstanding involvement with Binghamton University. His inclusion among the 2026 Upstate Power 100 reflects the impact of his professional leadership and his enduring commitment to the Greater Binghamton community and Upstate New York.

“Jim’s recognition is a tremendous and well-deserved honor,” said Ronald Greene, a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee. “His leadership has helped position HH&K for continued success while preserving the Firm’s strong connection to the communities we serve. Jim leads by example, and his dedication to our clients, our people and the Greater Binghamton region is evident in everything he does.”

Hinman, Howard & Kattell congratulates Jim on this distinguished recognition.
