Mr. Jaketic is a member of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation, Litigation, Labor & Employment and Criminal Defense practice groups.

Jeff’s workers’ compensation practice includes representing injured workers, representing businesses in disputes with the Workers’ Compensation Board, and contesting workers’ compensation insurance audits and penalties. Jeff also has experience handling and coordinating varying types of disability benefits, including workers’ compensation, short-term disability, long-term disability, Social Security Disability, benefits under Municipal Law §§ 207-a and 207-c, and disability benefits through the New York State & Local Retirement System.

Jeff is an aggressive litigator who is committed to obtaining the best possible outcome for his clients in any given situation. Jeff has substantial experience in vigorously advocating the interests of his clients by pursuing litigation against insurance carriers, employers, their attorneys, and their medical consultants. When appropriate, Jeff has also had success in negotiating favorable stipulations and “Section 32” settlement agreements as an alternative to litigation.

Jeff’s litigation practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, construction disputes, and employment litigation. In this arena, Jeff has significant experience in dealing with breach of contract actions, common law tort cases, civil rights violations, employment issues, and discrimination claims. Jeff also handles criminal defense matters.

Prior to joining Hinman, Howard & Kattell, Jeff practiced insurance litigation and litigated cases on behalf of municipal entities and officials in state and federal courts in both New York and New Jersey.

Jeff attended the Rutgers School of Law in Camden, New Jersey, where he served as a Law Guardian in the Child and Family Advocacy Clinic and represented minors in family court and Supplemental Security Income administrative hearings. Jeff also served as a judicial extern in the United States Bankruptcy Court, District of New Jersey for the Honorable Kathryn C. Ferguson.

Jeff practices law throughout New York State. He devotes time to participating in community activities as an active member of the Board of Directors of the Discovery Center and an active member of the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park. He is a member of the Broome Leadership Institute Class of 2019.

 

Joel N. Patch, Esq,

Mr. Patch is a member of the Real Estate, Oil & Gas, Credit Union and Liquor Licensing Practice Groups. His practice primarily involves representing individuals and lending institutions in all aspects of real estate transactions. This includes advising purchasers, sellers, lenders, and borrowers through each step of their purchases, sales, loans, leases, and other transactions. He also has experience handling evictions and other Landlord/Tenant issues.

Other prominent areas of Joel’s practice include oil & gas law, with an emphasis on all aspects of landowner leasing, and Liquor Licensing. Joel has successfully assisted retail establishments, golf courses, large-scale festivals, concerts, fundraisers and other events in securing the necessary licenses and/or permits from the State Liquor Authority.

Prior to joining HH&K, Joel received his B.S. degree in 2009 from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA in Environmental Sciences; magna cum laude and received his J.D. in 2012 from Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg, PA (magna cum laude). While at Widener, Joel was a member of the Widener Law Journal and the author of Dechert LLP v. Commonwealth: A Reminder to Commonwealth Judges to Stay Out of the Kitchen if They Can’t Handle the Heat of Interpreting Complex Areas of Administrative Law, 21 Widener L.J. 423 (Spring 2012).

A native of Conklin, New York, Joel returned to the Binghamton area upon completing his education to serve the community in which he grew up. Joel serves on the Board of Directors for Broome County Habitat for Humanity. He also devotes time to participating in community activities by being an active member of the Broome County Bar Association and its Law Day and Strategic Planning Committees, as well as being an Attorney Advisor for the Susquehanna Valley High School Mock Trial team. Joel is a graduate of the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce BLI Class of 2015. He has also served on the executive leadership team for the 2015 American Heart Association’s Southern Tier Heart Walk.
