About
Richard C. Lewis maintains a general legal practice at Hinman, Howard & Kattell where he focuses on litigation and business law. Dick devotes significant time to the formation of business entities and advising clients regarding all aspects of business activities. He is also involved in estate planning, preparation of wills, real estate, construction matters, and other personal matters for individual clients and families. Dick is also a veteran of New York’s courts. His experience includes litigating commercial disputes in Supreme Court and handling matrimonial and family court matters. He is also involved in Municipal Law representing numerous municipalities and claimants.
In 2023-2024, Dick served as President of the New York State Bar Association. Prior to that he served as the Chair of the House of Delegates, and he has served as a Member of the House of Delegates representing Broome County and as Vice President from the 6th Judicial District. He assumed the Presidency of the New York State Bar Association on June 1, 2023 and has over the years served on numerous task forces and committees including the Uniform Rules Committee (Chair), Emergency Task Force for Small Practitioners and Small Law Firms, Task Force on Nursing Homes and Long-Term Care, Task Force on Rural Justice, the President’s Committee on Access to Justice (Co-Chair), Task Force on Notarization (Co‑Chair), the Committee on Professional Discipline, and as a Member of the Municipal and State Government Law Section as well as the Finance Committee. In addition, Dick has been a Member of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Professional Discipline.
Dick has also been involved in numerous other legal organizations having served as a Member and Past President of the Broome County Bar Association (and recipient of the Ted Gallando Award), the President of Broome Legal Assistance Corporation, the Chair of both the Broome County Grievance and Ethics Committee and as the Chair of the Broome County Bar Association Endowment Committee. In addition, Dick was appointed by the New York Unified Court System to serve as a Member of the Court Modernization Action Committee, and he is a Member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates.

Dick has also been very active in the community having served on the Editorial Board of The Reporter (newspaper), the Endowment Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Binghamton. Dick has served as a Past Director and Vice President of the Broome Sports Foundation. He had also served as a Trustee of Hillel Academy and served as President from 2002-2012. He served as Chair of the Broome County Arena Board and is a Past Director of the Children’s Home of Wyoming Conference and a Past Director of SOS Shelter, Inc. Dick has been named to the Law Power 100 by the City and State of New York and is honored as on of the Best Lawyers in America.
