Katherine (Kate) A. Fitzgerald is a member of Hinman, Howard & Kattell’s Matrimonial, Family Law & Domestic Relations and it’s Environmental Practice Group.
Kate represents individuals in all aspects of matrimonial and family law, including divorce, legal separation, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, custody, relocation, the division of property, and the valuation of businesses. Kate is trained and experienced in both Collaborative Matrimonial Law and in Divorce Mediation. Her litigation practice includes actions both in Supreme Court and Family Court. She was recognized by the American Institute for Family Law Attorneys as one of the “Ten Best Female Attorneys in New York for Client Satisfaction in the practice area of Family Law” in 2016.

Kate’s Environmental Practice is focused on advising small business, banking, and corporate clients regarding regulatory matters, disputes with regulating authorities, and real estate transactions involving Phase I and II reviews, development, remediation, and financing of brownfields.
Kate is an active member of the Greater Binghamton community. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Goodwill Theatre, the Chamber of Commerce Live Wire Club, and of the Binghamton University Forum (past Chairperson). Kate is a member of two Binghamton University Advisory Committees: the Promise Zone B.U.S. Bucks Advisory Board and a CCPA Advisory Committee. She serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the E.L. Rose Conservancy, a nationally accredited Land Trust. Kate was named the 2015 Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of NYPENN. Kate previously served on the Boards of Directors for WSKG Public Radio and TV, Inc. (serving as Chairperson over four years); the SUNY Broome Foundation; the Women’s Fund Board of Directors through the Community Foundation; the Broome County Bar Association; the Tri-Cities Opera; The Southern Tier Zoological Society (past Chairperson); the Cider Mill Playhouse; The Children’s Home; The Family and Children’s Society; The United Way of Broome County; The Four County Library System; the Broome County Library Blue Ribbon Panel; the Lourdes Hospice Advisory Board (past Chairperson); and the Binghamton Housing Authority. She was recognized by the Broome County Bar Association for Community Service in 2022.
