Linda B. Johnson is a partner at Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP and the senior attorney of the Capital District office. She is a member of the Litigation, Appellate Practice, Commercial Litigation and Construction Law practice groups. Linda initially joined the firm in 2003. She rejoined the firm in 2010 after serving as an appellate court attorney for the New York State Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Third Judicial Department from 2009-2010. In September 2016, Linda was appointed to the position of Special Appellate Counsel for Rensselaer County.  She focuses her practice on plaintiff's personal injury, appeals, construction disputes and general litigation. Linda has extensive in-court trial, motion practice, negotiation, arbitration and mediation experience, and has been instrumental in the settlement of substantial civil cases.

In October 2015, Linda graduated from the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College in Dubois, Wyoming. She was elected as a board member to the Trial Lawyers College Alumni Board effective October 2, 2015. Linda has lectured on topics such as the use of active listening to improve trial skills for the Academy of Trial Lawyers, Women in the Law for the New York State Bar Association, mechanic’s liens and related considerations for construction industry clients, and family business dispute litigation.  Linda graduated from Albany Law School, magna cum laude, in 2001.

Linda is a member of the appellate counsel panel of the New York State Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, Third Judicial Department. She has served on the New York State Character & Fitness Committee since April 2011.  Linda is a past president of the Capital District Women's Bar Association (CDWBA), and has also served as the CDWBA President-Elect, Second Vice President and Recording Secretary. Linda serves on the Board of Directors of the Rensselaer County Bar Association and is a delegate to the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York. She is a co-founder of the East Greenbush Ski Club, and currently serves as its Vice President.  Linda is a member of the New York State, American, Capital District Black & Hispanic, and Albany County Bar Associations.

Representative favorable appellate decisions include:

People v. James, 147 A.D.3d 1211 (3d Dept 2017) (criminal conviction reversed and remanded for new trial; charges subsequently dropped by District Attorney); Rehman v. Sheikh, 2017 NY Slip Op 05646 (3d Dept 2017) (Family Court ordered modified on the law, reversing domicile restriction); Brandywine Pavers, LLC v. Bombard, 129 AD3d 1512 (4th Dept 2015) (order reversed, directing payment of undertaking to appellant); Satra Realty, LLC v. Knovel Corp., 93 A.D.3d 1128 (3d Dept 2012) (reversal of order in breach of commercial lease and summary judgment awarded to appellant); Brightman v. Hackett, 81 AD3d 1200 (3d Dept 2011) (order affirmed after independent review of the weight of the evidence); Lamonte v. County of Broome, 20 A.D.3d 756 (3d Dept 2005) (order deeming plaintiff’s notice of claim timely filed nunc pro tunc affirmed).
