Katherine (“Kate”) A. Fitzgerald is a partner and Chair of Hinman, Howard & Kattell’s Domestic Relations, Matrimonial and Family Law Practice Group. Ms. Fitzgerald represents individuals in all aspects of family law and she is trained and experienced in Collaborative Matrimonial Law Practice. She has counseled clients on divorce, legal separation, prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, and settlement agreements. She is experienced in matters involving the division of property and the valuation of businesses and professional licenses. She has handled numerous cases concerning child custody, visitation, and support. Her litigation practice includes actions both in Supreme Court and Family Court.

In addition to a family law practice, Ms. Fitzgerald handles various environmental law matters for business clients. Her environmental practice includes advising clients on regulatory matters, assisting in real estate transactions involving development, clean-up and financing of contaminated property, and litigating environmental cases in state and federal courts. Her clients include small business, non-profit, and corporate clients.

Ms. Fitzgerald is an active member of the Greater Binghamton community. She is a member of the Boards of Directors for the Goodwill Theatre, Chair of WSKG Public Radio and TV, Inc., and the Binghamton University Harpur Form (past Chair). Kate is a member of the Woman’s Fund Board of Directors through the Community Foundation. She is also a member of the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce Live Wire Club. Ms. Fitzgerald was named the 2015 Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Woman of Distinction. Ms. Fitzgerald serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the E.L. Rose Conservancy, a nationally accredited nonprofit Land Trust.  She has been recognized by the American Institute for Family Law Attorneys as one of the “Ten Best Female Attorneys in New York for Client Satisfaction in the practice area of Family Law” for 2016.

Ms. Fitzgerald previously served on the Boards of Directors for the Broome Community College Foundation; Tri-Cities Opera; Southern Tier Zoological Society (past Chair); Cider Mill Playhouse; The Children’s Home; The Family and Children’s Society; The United Way of Broome County; The Four County Library; The Lourdes Hospice Advisory Board (Past Chair) and the Binghamton Housing Authority.
